PyWeather Archives

PyWeather Archives

The PyWeather Archives are the home to about 25 Asciinema recordings of all PyWeather versions - before Wunderground’s API went offline in early 2019.

Please note of a few things:

  • To make older versions of PyWeather work, custom modifications were made beforehand. This usually meant adding user agents or API keys to geocoders so that PyWeather would work as intended.

  • If a known critical bug caused a PyWeather crash, I let it be and included it in the recordings.

  • The API key you see in the demos (not like it matters because the API key is down) was the bundled PyWeather key for v1.0.0-v1.0.3.

  • All recordings were made on KDE Neon in December 2018.

  • Non-default settings were used in the recordings to showcase all possible features.

  • A custom geocoder key is not turned on (to keep the API key a secret) in 0.3 beta - 0.6.3 beta, but is active in the background to make PyWeather work.

  • Radar GUI recordings are not available at this time. I hope to post screen recordings on YouTube (which include radar GUI demos) in the future.

Update (December 2023): In honor of the 5th anniversary of PyWeather meeting its fateful end, the YouTube recordings of all versions are finally available. These are unedited so you will see me go into and out of OBS to stop the recording. You can finally see what the radar GUI looked like!

It’s truly crazy that it’s been 5 years since PyWeather development ended and oh boy I have learned quite a lot in those 5 years. Who knows where I’ll be 5 years from now.
