(not anymore!) Most owenthe.dev services continue to be unavailable

Update (11:00 PM EDT): The Web VPS has been restored after a lengthy 8 hours of downtime. Woohoo! I will submit a SLA request with OVH so that instead of getting 3 donuts free at Dunkin this month (amex gold), now I’ll get 4 and a half. Boo fucking yah!

I still expect my flight to Japan to get cancelled.

At about 2:49 PM EDT today, whatever host was hosting my Web VPS on OVH decided to kick the bucket and stop working. OVH declared the incident resolved at 8:10 PM, but as of this writing, my Web VPS has decided not to come back online (possibly related to attempting to reboot it during the outage, whoops…) at this time.

I don’t know when the VPS will decide to come back, but for now, this is affecting all services except the Squarespace site and anything I self-host. The status page at status.owenthe.dev will have more frequent updates. Did you know I had a status page? Me neither, it’s been unused for 2 years, but I guess today is a good day to start using it.

I am hoping that by tomorrow morning the VPS will be online and everything will be operational. Apologies if you can’t check Beacon Hill Weather today.

At this rate, I expect my flight to Japan on Wednesday to get cancelled (see my previous blog post).

Services not affected include:

  • GitLab

  • Grafana

  • Mail server (thankfully…)

  • And Beacon Hill Weather’s actual hardware is still up, the receiver is storing packets offline for now
